Overview

Flipgrid is a free video discussion platform that provides you and your students with a way to share thoughts and resources in a genuine and interactive manner, anytime and anywhere. It is designed to facilitate collaboration and social learning among your students. Here is how it works: You create a Discussion Topic (similar to how you do in a Learning Management System), share the URL/Code with your learners, and watch them have back-and-forth conversations via short video posts.

Activity Ideas

There are a variety of ways that you can integrate Flipgrid into your course. Here are a few ideas to help you consider the possibilities of using it in your course:

  • Introductions: At the beginning of the semester, have students post a Flipgrid video introducing themselves to you and their fellow classmates.

  • Case Study: Have students discuss a case study in small groups and then post a video recording of a role-play of their group applying key concepts or skills.

  • Presentation: Invite students to select a topic from a provided list and present the information to their peers via a Flipgrid video post. Classmates view the presentations and can post their questions for the presenter. Presenters return to their original post and answer their classmates’ questions.

  • Debate: Students watch a debate and choose the speaker that they felt made a compelling argument. They can provide their analysis with the reasoning in a video post.

  • Experts: Invite an expert to post a short video on a specific topic or to answer a question posed by the class. Then give students an opportunity to engage with the expert by asking questions or providing their input.
