Best practices

  • one script per video

  • 120 words = approx 1 min

  • scripts should be a max 700 words or 5 mins per video

Naming Convention

  • Folder:

    • MDS 492 scripts

  • Scripts:

    • Course Introduction

    • Module 01 - Writing Tips and Techniques (Location in course, title of video

    • Module 02 - Better Study Habits

Writing Convention

Try to write in ways that are adaptable. For instance, if you want to be able to use a video in multiple courses or change where in a course a video will live. Below are common examples of bad vs good ways of writing these types of script references.

Example 1

“Welcome to MDS 492 Writing and Rhetoric.”

“Welcome to this course on Writing and Rhetoric.”

Example 2

“Hello and welcome to Module 4 - Writing Tips and Techniques.”

“Hello and welcome to this week's module. This week were talking about writing tips and techniques”

Example 3

“For your week 3 assignment, you’ll need to refer back to the week 2 video where we discussed better study habits.”

“For this weeks assignment, you’ll need to reference the ‘Better Study Habits’ video.”

Example 4

“That’s all for week 3. See you in week 4.”

“That’s all for now. See you next week.”

Equipment used

(2) iPads - One for mirroring and one for remote connection. The apps below are installed on both iPads:

(1) Glide Gear iPad Teleprompter

(1) Manfrotto Tripod

(1) Canon C100 Camera

Promptsmart (app)

The easiest way to work with teleprompted scripts is by utilizing 2 iPads—one iPad that will sit in the stand using the Promptsmart Pro app (A) and one iPad using the Promptsmart Remote Control app (B). You can still utilize voice tracking from A and follow along using B. Should you need to backup at any time you can use B remotely to scroll to the appropriate script location.

WindowMirror (app)

This will allow you to mirror (reverse) windows on Mac for using with teleprompter glass.
