Do NOT load the assignment in a new tab when creating a Flip LTI assignment. This may separate any instruction provided in Canvas from the topic in Flip where students will respond to the instructions or prompts.
Post rubrics in the course site as separate documents (e.g., Google Docs) to be used in tandem with faculty viewing and grading of Flip LTI Assignments.
Leverage existing Canvas LTI Integration and Flip Help Center resources for both faculty and students as both applications are prone to continuous updates.
In the Master Course
Build as a No Submission Assignment
Include all details (instructions, prompt, points, et cetera), but leave it as a regular assignment
The instructor will create Flip Integration and topics ahead of opening the live course.
Instructor Guide Content When Using Flip
Refer to the Flip Help Site Set up Canvas LTI integration. Some of the steps are explained below.
Enable Flip Integration for the course.
Login to Flip as a group Lead.
If you do not have use the Getting Started: Leads guide. You will want to sign up with Google using your Boise State email account.
If you already have an account, go to Flip.com and login with your Boise State account.
In Flip: Add an Integration to create the “Consumer Key” and “Shared Secret” that will be used to continue the setup. Follow the instructions in Find your consumer key and shared secret to complete this step. Do not close this window.
In Canvas, add the Flip app to your course
Click Settings in your Course Menu,
Click the Apps tab,
In the search box, type “Flip,” then click on the Flip logo.
Click the +Add App button.
In the pop-up box, enter the Consumer Key and Shared Secret from Flip. These were displayed in Step 1b, above.
Create a Course Group in Flip.
In Canvas, click Flip in the left sidebar. In the pop-up window, click Create a Course Group. It should automatically create the group with the name of the course.
Edit the Assignment in Canvas
Locate the assignment in your Canvas course, then open it, and click Edit.
Scroll to the “Submission Type” setting. Using the drop-down menu, change the Submission Type to External Tool.
In the pop-up window, scroll through the apps until you find the Flip tool. Note: there may be a short delay before the tool appears from your initial setup in Step 1. Select Flip with your pointer, then click Select.
It is recommended you UNCHECK “Load this tool in a new tab.”
Click Save in Canvas to set the new settings for the assignment.
Repeat Step 3 for each Flip assignment in your course.
Adding Flip to a course more than once
Be sure NOT to add Flip to a course more than once when using Settings>Apps>+ App
Canvas may not warn you it is already present and instead add a second faulty app which could result in assignments that don’t do not function properly.
