Overview

This example of student-facing instructions comes from a course where:

  • Students are accessing Flip for the first time in the course

  • The master template uses a web link to direct students to Flip

  • The teaching faculty updates the web link URLs with the Flip URL (rather than the Flip topic)

After the first use of Flip, students are told "using the same steps to access Flip, go to..." (rather than repeating all the instructions. The hyperlinks were vetted and approved for use in master templates.


Student Facing Activity Directions (course uses Flip Codes listed on a page)

The purpose of this assignment is to [insert MLO(s) relevant to the specific activity]. This is important because [insert rationale for the activity].

Initial Post Directions

  1. Create an outline of talking points that address the following prompts in 2-3 minutes:

  2. Go to the Flip Login page in Course Resources to access Flip.

    • Locate this week’s topic.

    • Record your video.

  3. Return to Canvas after you are done with your post and proceed to the next activity.

Flip Resources

Flip allows you to easily create and share videos using your computer or smartphone. You may also upload files to Flip (MP4, MOV, and WEBM files). Flip also provides a simple way to watch shared videos and respond with a video message.

If you are new to Flip or haven’t used it in a while, review the resources linked below. If you plan on using a mobile device, you can download the Flip app from the App Store or Google Play

Student Facing Activity Directions (providing Flip tutorial links)

Recording and Submitting Your Video in Flip

  1. If you plan to use a mobile device, download the Flip app from the App Store or Google Play. Otherwise, run a web camera test and a microphone test before you begin. Then find a comfortable place to make your recording.

  2. Access the Flip discussion area by clicking this link: XXXXX

  3. Click ‘Log in with Google’ then choose your Boise State student account.

  4. Record your video. 

  5. For detailed instructions see Flip's support page on recording videos.

  6. Edit your name so your full first and last name appears on your post.

  7. Submit your video.

Tip: If you plan on using a mobile device, download the Flip app from the App Store or Google Play before attempting the steps that follow. Otherwise, run a web camera test and a microphone test before you begin.

  1. Find a comfortable place to make your recording

  2. Access the Flip discussion area by clicking the 0.03 link in Canvas

    1. If you are not prompted to ‘Log in with Google’, enter your Boise State student account. Doing so will link your account to Flip and make logging in easier in the future

  3. Click ‘Log in with Google’ then choose your Boise State student account

    1. If you are not automatically directed to the 0.03 Introduce Yourself discussion, use the Topics drop-down and select 0.03 Introduce Yourself

  4. Record your video

    1. Scroll down then click the Add icon—the large plus (+) sign—to add a video message

    2. Note: Allow access to your camera and microphone, if prompted.

    3. Click the Record icon to record your video

    4. Click the Pause icon to stop recording

    5. Click the Next Arrow to review your video and take a selfie

  5. Submit your video
