Medical Images and Diagrams

Find illustrations, diagrams, and other medical images that can be used in online courses. With citations, most of these images will comply with copyright rules. Be sure to check each sites and images for usage guidelines.

  • Wikimedia Commons

  • Google Images: Click Tools, then Usage Rights, and then Creative Commons Licenses. You’ll find a lot of images you can use this way, but be sure to check license details. (Some may require attribution, a link back to the site, etc.)

  • Servier: Specifically medical images.

  • NYU Health Sciences Library: Access to many public domain and Creative-Commons licensed but also some copyrighted material. 

  • USC Medical Images and Illustrations: A collection of sites, many of which allow the use of images for educational purposes. Check copyright information before using. Some sites require registration.

  • Britannica: Reasonable portions may be used for educational purposes.

  • Textbook: Images used in the assigned text for the course may be used in course materials with attribution.

  • Machine-generated medical images: These include X-Rays, CT scans, etc. These are fine to use.

  • Albertson’s Library: Images from articles available through our library can be used in the course. Attribution is required.

  • Adobe Stock: Our media team can license a number of Adobe Stock images per month. If you find an image you like, let eCampusVideo@BoiseState.edu know, and we may be able to license it at no additional cost.
