The Creative Brief is integrated into the Blueprint towards the end and is used to keep track of multimedia deliverables the media team is working on for each course. Instructors and multimedia developers (MMDs) can work with the Creative Brief directly to more easily and efficiently communicate information specific to multimedia for courses, defining the what, where, and when on any items MMDs are helping with. It is also a useful reference for future requests.

Benefits of the Creative Brief

  • Easier communication for all parties involved

  • Succinct record of expectations

  • List of all course media deliverables in one location

  • Reference for questions like:

    • What should the title of videos be and where do they belong in the course?

    • I had media items created for a course X years ago, can you help locate them for a new course?

    • Where are the Panopto links to this course?

    • How many media assets were created for a course and how long did it take?

Creative Brief and the Blueprint

The Creative Brief is integrated into the Blueprint and provides a specific place for all parties to be able to view and keep track of all the media content the MMD’s are working on for that course.

Who Uses the Creative Brief?

MMDs primarily and instructors will be the ones providing information in this document. Other Development Team members will also be able to access and contribute as needed.

What Content Gets Added to the Creative Brief?

Any YouTube links or other types of media that are just being built and do not require any work from the MMD’s will not be part of the Creative Brief. The Creative Brief is specific to the media projects being worked on and agreed upon by the multimedia professional early on in the initial meetings.

Who is “in charge” of maintaining the Creative Brief?

  • It’s largely a communication tool for MMD to keep things on track

  • If you (anyone not on MMD) needs/wants to add something, communicate with your MMD point person for that project unless already talked about and agreed upon earlier on

  • If you want to add new media activities to a project, it is best to bring in the MMD for the project to discuss capacity and timeline before adding it to the Creative Brief

Much like Blueprint documents, a Creative Brief will be used to manage media-specific content. Any information received outside of this doc relevant to course media will be added to the Creative Brief by MMD for reference. As of February 2022, Creative Briefs are kept alongside Blueprints under CDD projects > Program > Course for every CDD project needing multimedia content for a course.

MMDs will tag items within the Creative Brief just like a course Blueprint when additional information or action is needed from instructors on multimedia for the course.
